Islanded Microgrid Restoration Studies with Graph-Based Analysis

The need to restore and keep the grid running or fast restoration during emergencies such as extreme weather conditions is quite apparent given reliance of other infrastructure on electricity. One promising approach electricity use locally available energy resources system form isolated microgrids. In this paper, we present a black start method that forms islanded microgrids after blackout. master DGs in formed are coordinated work together through droop control. Several constraints, including incentive-based demand response (DR) with direct load control (DLC) distributed generator (DG) operation were formulated linearized realize mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model. To improve compactness ensure model neither under-sized nor over-sized, pre-processing graph analysis was introduced which helps characterize least number steps needed optimally microgrid. Studies performed modified IEEE 123 node test feeder evaluate effects response, non-dispatchable DGs, choice quality solution. When possible, proposed yields an interconnected multi-master microgrid improved redundancy.
